Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek is a beautiful journey to the enticing Gokyo lakes and Gokyo Ri which is one of the most amazing viewpoints for great views of Everest and other Himalayas. Gokyo RI Peak rises 5,357m above sea level, and therefore the middle valley peak stands between Everest base camp and Thame valley. As you trek through the Gokyo Ri, you get to see a variety of mountain landscapes, including Mount Everest, Makalu, Cho Yu, Pumori, and Ama Dablam. Gokyo Ri provides an insightful view of the mountains with beautiful Gokyo lake.

 

Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri trek is for those who like to walk in the Everest region without the physical stress of reaching the base camp of Everest or crossing high passes in the vicinity. It is instead for travellers who wish to try something new in the Everest region.

Day 01
Arrival Kathmandu

On your arrival at Tribhuvan International airport in Kathmandu (1,350m). You will be met by our representative and transferred to our hotel. After hotel check-in we take a rest or visit to Thamel (The centre of the tourist industry) and you can buy trekking gears if you need. In the evening there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Star Mountain Trek and will be served authentic Nepalese cuisine which will be introduce you to the country’s food with culture. Overnight to Kathmandu.

Day 02
Sightseeing Kathmandu and trek preparation

Our tour (sightseeing) starting from Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Bouddhanath Stupa and Pashupathinath. Which are all world heritage sites. Durbar Square in front of the old royal palace of the former Kathmandu Kingdom. Swayambhunath is a known as the Monkey Temple, Bouddhanath Stupa is one of the largest stupa in the world and Pashupatinath Temple is the one of the most import places for all Hindus. In the evening we will meet up to prepare for Gokyo Ri Trek. We will go over information about the trekking route from your guide. Overnight to Kathmandu.

Day 03
Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding

Flight from Kathmandu into the mountains and the town of Lukla. From there a gentle downhill walk to Phakding or Jorsale along the edge of the Dudh Kosi River. Easy, well-used, busy path of porters and yaks, surrounded by forest on the sides of the valley. Where we stop for the night.

Day 04
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazar

Today the trail takes us through forest, traditional village with their ploughed fields and yak pastures. We cross Dudh Koshi River and pass Chumoa and Monju village before reaching the entrance of the Everest National Park. After lunch, we pass the Jorsale village and walk alongside of the Dhdh Khosi and Bhote Koshi River, crossing a suspension bridge and on a step trail reach Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar, this is the largest Sherpa village in the Khumbu Region. Where we stop for the night.

Day 05
Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazar

Today is an acclimatization day to allow our bodies to adjust to the high altitude. We can tour Namche Bazar which is the primary town of the Everest or Khumbu region has government offices, ATMS, shops, restaurants, coffee bean café and colourful market. If you are interested in a hiking, there is an opportunity to spend a few hour hiking around the area. We can trek Khumjung village and we also visit the Hillary School and monastery which houses a yeti scalp.

Some of the mountains on view today are Kwangde, Kangtega, Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dabblam and of course Mount Everest. Where we stop for the night.

Day 06
Trek from Namche Bazar to Dole

Walk to Dole (4210m), via an easy path to Sangnasha. Climb uphill until Mong La, where we have lunch. After lunch it is downhill to Phorche Tanga. A pleasant walk through some forest then brings us to Dole, where we stop for the night.

Day 07
Trek from Dole to Machhermo

On this day, you resume the trek with a steep ascent through the ridge just above Dole. Thorny bushes surround the path as it leads to the beautiful hamlet of Luza via Lhabarma. Significantly, the fascinating vistas of Cho Oyu, Kantega, and Thamserku embellish the backdrop throughout the day. Walking through the hills above the raging Dudh Koshi, you’ll reach Marchhermo in approximately 4 hours. Where we stop for the night.

Day 08
Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo

We ascend on a hill and enjoy views of the Dudh Koshi valley and Kangtega, Thamserku and Cho-Oyu mountains. Beyond the ridge the valley widens as the trail passes through a Chorten and reaches Phangga. We descend to the river bank before climbing up to the terminal moraine of the Ngozamba Glacier on a steep trail. We pass through Longpongo, Raboche Tsho and Dudh Pokhari before reaching Gokyo. On the trail next to the first lake, we see what is believed to be the footprints of a Lama (Buddhist priest). We explore Dudh Pokhari before calling it a night. Where we stop for the night.

Day 09
Trek from Gokyo to Gokyo Ri and back to Gokyo

This day marks the major highlights of the entire trek. On this day, you’ll hike to the vantage point of Gokyo Ri at an elevation of 5,357 meters. The climb to the viewpoint is strenuous and takes 3 to 4 hours to reach the top. Relish the panoramic spectacles of mountains like Everest, Nuptse, Thamserku, Makalu, Lhotse, and Pumori from the top. The exhilarating views of Gokyo lakes and Ngozumba glaciers will surpass your expectations. You’ll retrace your route back to Gokyo. Where we stop the night.

Day 10
Trek from Gokyo to Dole

We descend on a trail along the Dudh Koshi River and pass the first Gokyo lakes. On the way we also enjoy views of the Cholatse and Taboche peaks. Our trail descends before climbing a hill. After reaching the chorten at the edge, we see great views of Thamserku, Cho Oyu, and Kangtega mountains. We walk past Machhermo, Luza and Lhafarma villages before reaching Dole. Where we stop the night.

Day 11
Trek from Dole to Namche Bazar

We descend on a steep trail to Phortse Thanga admiring rhododendrons, wildflowers and waterfalls. We also come across mountain goats, musk deer, pheasants, etc. From Mong, we can admire a good view of Khumbila peak. On our way to Namche the view of Taboche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kangtega mountains are ours to admire. After walking for a while, we reach an intersection where the trail from Sanasa meets our trail. We walk on a trail that clings to a forested slope beyond Kyangjuma, winding through several bends. After reaching Namche army camp hill, we look back to see Lhotse, the tip of Everest and Tengboche for one last time. About a kilometer from here is Namche Bazaar. Where we stop the night

Day 12
Trek from Namche Bazar to Lukla

It is mostly a downhill trek on a trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River. We cross several suspension bridges, pass by several monasteries and villages before reaching Lukla. In the earlier part of the day, take a good final look at the magnificent Himalayan Mountains, and say goodbye to the Khumbu Valley and Mount Everest. Then put your head down as we make a final long ascent into Lukla. Where we stop the night.

Day 13
Fly to Kathmandu

This morning says goodbye to Mt Everest and the Khumbu Region as we board our flight back to either Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, we can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If we want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, we may do that today. Our guides can help you with both souvenir shopping, sightseeing. Evening to celebrate the successful completion of our journey. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Final departure

Our adventure in Nepal ends today.  After breakfast, our representative will take you to Tribhuvan International Airport in time for your onward flight.  Should you be staying longer in Nepal or have a late flight, please note hotel check-out time is 11 am.

Meals

Meals will be provided during while. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests. In teak most common cuisines in most menu will be Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian and the more common continental.

Accommodation

We will be accommodated hotel in Kathmandu, teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. We will have rooms with attached washrooms in most parts of the trek but this is not possible in a few remote locations. Also understand that single rooms are not easily available in higher elevations like they are in Kathmandu and the lower elevation regions.
